On the 15th of May, we observe the International Day of Families. Declared in 1996 by the United Nations, the International Day of Families reflects on the challenges faced by families all over the world, such as poverty, lack of education, and social & economic immobility.
The theme for this year is “Families and Inclusive Societies”. It aims to promote peaceful and inclusive societies as a part of sustainable development. Family policies differ all around the world. In some regions, the concerns may lie on migrant families and ethnic minorities. In other regions, they may be about persons with disabilities. Vulnerable families require greater efforts at social protection.
There will be an international panel discussion about ensuring equal justice to all family members, especially women, who are in particularly vulnerable positions in many parts of the world.
